I’m Going to Rapid City…Rapid City Here I come…

…They’ve got some great little attractions there and I’m gonna have some fun! 

Ahhh… Rapid City.  Often referred to as the “Gateway to the Black Hills” and a traveled destination by many.  There is much to see and do in the City of Presidents.

Located eight miles south of Rapid City, Bear Country offers visitors an intimate view of a variety of mammals from North America.  With over 200 black bears in the park, it is the largest collection of privately owned black bears in the world.  Bear Country is a drive-thru wildlife park.  This provides visitors the chance to see wildlife up close from the comfort of your their vehicle.  Along with the bears, park staff members raise young timber wolves, arctic wolves, bobcats and mountain lions throughout the late winter, spring and early summer as they are born at Bear Country.

Before you begin your adventure in the Black Hills, a trip to the Journey Museum is a must.  This education focused museum brings together four prehistoric and historic collections to tell the story of the Western Great Planes.  The Journey Museum takes you on an incredible trek through time, from the formation of the Black Hills over 2.5 billion years ago to the continuing saga of the Western Frontier.  Learn where dinosaurs are buried on the prairie, why the Sioux Native Americans consider the Black Hills to be the “Center of the Universe”, and experience the hardships faced by homesteaders when the settled this area.

Get ready for a foot stompin’, rip roarin’ good time at the Flying T Chuck Wagon Supper and Cowboy Show.  This dinner and show takes you back to the days of Old West.  Dine on traditional chuck wagon cuisine while the Flying T Wranglers entertain you with songs from the Old West, jokes and zany antics.  Flying T Chuck Wagon Supper & Cowboy Music Show has been in the Black Hills of South Dakota since 1979.  Their 115 years of combined experience make for an experience that you won’t soon forget.  Here’s a sample of their toe tappin’ music.
