Going out to eat can be one of the largest expenses incurred by a family when on vacation. As the family size grows, so do the bills at the end of the meal. Here are a few tips to save you money on meals this summer.
1. Shop around: There are many options when you go out to eat. Doing your research during or prior to your trip may help you save time and money when exploring your dining options.
2. Go for groceries: This is a great chance to keep the family fed for an entire trip without breaking the bank. Bring a cooler along, visit the local grocery store when you get into town and fill up with snacks and meals for the whole trip. This is especially useful in the event you are camping out in one of South Dakota’s many State Parks and Recreation Areas.
3. Diners, Drive-in’s and Dives: In South Dakota, there are a variety of dining options that are “outside the box”. Find out where the locals dine, do some exploring and try the lesser known spots. You will be pleasantly surprised by the food and the price.
4. Split it up: It goes against many laws of food when you split a meal with your travel partner. Some will cringe at the thought of not getting a whole portion. As bad as it may sound, this can be a handy option when trying to save a few bucks.
5. Experience it!: If you really want to go all out on a dining experience, get your money’s worth. Find a place that offers additional entertainment. The greatest chance in South Dakota is a Chuck Wagon cookout! Food, fun and music all in one.
