The 4th Annual South Dakota Film Festival – first and foremost – has added an additional day of festivities…the festival now will begin on Thursday, September 9, and run through Sunday, September 12. The festival received a high number of films so they chose to add another day of screening. Over 100 films were entered into the festival and they will show almost half of them – this is awesome news. More awesome news: ticket prices will remain the same; you can purchase them online now.

There are several exciting elements to this year’s festival…here are a couple:

  • The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) will be hosting a workshop on Saturday, September 11, from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The SAG will be bringing in a team of industry professionals to present the interactive program to festival goers. The main goal of the workshop will be to highlight the critical tools actors need to survive in the film and television industry.
  • The festival is welcoming Kyle Eastwood, a film score composer! He is known for working on scores such as Grand Torino, Million Dollar Baby, Invictus and is also an accomplished jazz musician. By the way, he is the oldest son of actor Clint Eastwood.
  • A casting opportunity is being presented at the SDFF. If you have dreams of acting now is your chance to present yourself in front of a top Hollywood casting director. First, on Saturday, attend the Screen Actors Guild Workshop, then audition on Sunday if you fit the requirements of the casting call. There is no fee to be a part of the audition event on Sunday.
    • The call is for both female and male Native American actors
    • Casting Director Rene Haynes (“Into the West,” “Twlight Saga: New Moon & Eclipse,” and “Skins”) will be conducting the casting call for the feature film “Crooked Arrows” – a film about a contemporary Native high school lacrosse team.

Now, this is just a taste of what will be happening at the four day SDFF. Check it out for yourself, it is an event worth attending for filmmakers, film lovers and anyone looking for a great event to attend.

The SDFF website is a wonderful way to learn even more about what’s happening at the festival. Hope to see you there!
