Another week brings more Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and Mount Rushmore triva questions. Again, the answers to the questions will be revealed on Thursday this week.

Question #3 – After whom was Mount Rushmore named and where did he live?

Doane (A nickname) Robinson was a farmer and former lawyer born in WISC who became the South Dakota State Historian. The Robinson Museum on Capitol Ave bore his name. While at his position in Pierre, SD he helped spearhead the notion of a carving in the Black Hills. DR died in the mid-40′s at about the age of 90.

Chas Rushmore was an attorney from New York City who visited the area on business (An area Mine and doing Due diligence & Title-work), and asked a guide the mountain’s name out of happenstance. Unnamed (is the lore) the guide called that peak “Rushmore” from then on. The name was official in the early 30′s…Mt. Rushmore happened to be chosen as the best option for the carving and in his old age years and years later, Chas Rushmore donated a substantial sum of money to Borglum as seed money, which helped to solidify the project’s viability and secure government funding
