Custer State Park Annual Buffalo Auction

Custer State Park plans to sell 177 buffalo at its annual auction Saturday.

The park herd of around 1,300 was rounded up in September to be counted, branded and vaccinated. Some animals are culled each year and sold so the herd doesn’t get too big.

More than half the buffalo being sold Saturday are calves. Nineteen park burros also will be sold.

Last year’s auction of 233 buffalo netted $173,690.
